Women in Film Spotlight: Tina Tozzi

Name: Tina Tozzi

Field of Industry/Company/Job Title: Entertainment/Much & House PR/ Publicist

Favorite Film: Goonies

Are you from Los Angeles originally? If not, where? I'm from New Jersey.

ODT: Tell us about the moment you decided to move to L.A., how did it make you feel?

TT: I decided to move to LA after completing a production job in NYC. I decided LA had far more entry-level opportunities and I moved here exactly one month later. I was excited at the promise of a new beginning in an industry that I love so dearly.

ODT: Why have you pursued a career in the film industry?

TT: Film and Television move me. Most people listen to music to inspire them; I watch TV. Film and TV have gotten me through some tough times in my life, and all I've wanted for years is to be a part of it.

ODT: How did you first get into the film industry?

TT: My first official job in the industry was as a production office manager for the Style Network's reality show, "Jerseylicious" - HA! I then moved to LA and got a job as a receptionist at a Public Relations firm and over the last two years I have worked my way up to "Publicist."

ODT: Any particularly memorable moments on your journey?

TT: One of my most memorable moments was my first Emmy's carpet. I watched Tina Fey hug Jimmy Fallon and then Lady Gaga brushed by me and I thought my head would explode. Another crazy moment was when I was with a client at Disneyland with the rest of his cast, and suddenly I found myself singing High School Musical tunes with Kenny Ortega at California Adventure and I thought, "this is my life...?!"

ODT: What do you love most about the film industry?

TT: I love the glamour and the art of it. I love working with clients that care deeply about their work and helping them succeed in sharing their gifts with the world.

ODT: What have been some of the more challenging moments about being a woman in the film industry?

TT: I am fairly fortunate to be in a female dominated sector of the industry, but sometimes working with male agents and managers can be difficult. As long as you assert yourself, they generally treat you with a great deal of respect and trust.

ODT: What motivates you? What dream(s) are you most fighting for?

TT: I'm motivated by my love for the industry. I don't know that I have one specific dream that I'm fighting for, because the business has generally taken good care of me when it comes to putting me in the right place at the right time. All I know is that I want to continue to be part of the entertainment industry and continue to grow and learn.
